Pathways To a Master’s Degree

The MicroMasters Program in Data, Economics, and Design of Policy (DEDP) enables learners to receive academic credit at universities around the world, making the credential a pathway to a master’s degree. The amount of credit and the conditions for receiving it depends upon each institution, which are all listed below. Contact MIT and other universities directly to learn more about these programs

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA): Master of Applied Science in Data, Economics, and Design of Policy

Learners who successfully complete the DEDP MicroMasters Program Credential have the opportunity to apply to the Master of Applied Science in Data, Economics, and Design of Policy at MIT. Learners admitted to the program complete one semester of coursework at MIT and an approved capstone project to earn their degree in eight months. American University of Central Asia (Kyrgyz Republic): Master of Science in Economics

The American University of Central Asia will offer the credential holders of the MicroMasters program in Data, Economics, and Design of Policy the possibility of earning 24 credits of the total graduate credits towards the completion of the MSc. in Economics.

Bethel University (USA): Master of Business Administration

Bethel University will offer those who have earned the MicroMasters program credential in Data, Economics, and Design of Policy 12 credits toward the total credits in the Master of Business Administration (MBA) program if they are accepted for admission. Your MicroMasters credential is valid for five years upon your application to Bethel.

If you would like to apply to Bethel before the completion of the MicroMasters program, Bethel will still consider your application.

Chulalongkorn University (Thailand): Master of Business Administration

Sasin School of Management will offer the credential holders of the MicroMasters program in Data, Economics, and Design of Policy the possibility of earning 6 credits of the total graduate credits towards the completion of the Sasin School of Management's MBA.

Covenant University (Nigeria): Master of Economics

Covenant University will offer the credential holders of the MicroMasters program in Data, Economics, and Design of Policy the possibility of earning 14 credits of the total graduate credits towards the completion of the Master of Economics. Your MicroMasters credential is valid for five years upon your application to Covenant.

Deakin University (Australia): Multiple master’s degrees

Deakin offers the credential holders of MicroMasters program in DEDP four units’ of credit towards the completion of these online Master’s degree programs: Master of Public Health and Master of Health Economics. Deakin also offers the MicroMasters program credential holders four units’ credit towards the completion of the Master of Nutrition and Population Health.

For these MicroMasters program credential holders who also hold a bachelor’s degree in the same or a related field, Deakin offers two units’ credit towards the completion of the Master of Human Nutrition. For graduates who do not hold a bachelor’s degree in the same or a related field, this MicroMasters program in DEDP will be an entry pathway to the Master of Human Nutrition. (Normally applicants without a bachelor’s degree in a related field are required to complete a Graduate Certificate of Human Nutrition as the entry criterion.)

Doane University (USA): Master of Business Administration

Doane’s MBA with a Data, Economics, and Design of Policy emphasis is designed for development practitioners and policymakers who wish to understand, create, and prove impact, sustainability, and scalability. Upon acceptance into the program, the MicroMasters program in Data, Economics, and Design of Policy will satisfy the non-profit emphasis area and the student will only need to take 21 credit hours to complete their Master of Business Administration.

Harvard Extension School (USA): Master of Liberal Arts in Extension Studies

Harvard Extension School (HES) offers the credential holders of the MicroMasters program in Data, Economics, and Design of Policy the possibility of earning 16 of the total graduate credits towards the ALM in the field of global development practice. You must apply for admission to the ALM within three years of earning your MicroMasters credential.

Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (Mexico): Master of Applied Economics

Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM) will offer the credential holders of the MicroMasters program in Data, Economics, and Design of Policy the possibility of earning 18 credits of the total graduate credits towards the completion of the Master of Applied Economics.

Johannesburg Business School (South Africa): Master of Business Administration

Johannesburg Business School (JBS) of the University of Johannesburg will offer the credential holders of the MicroMasters program in Data, Economics, and Design of Policy the possibility of earning up to 30 credits out of the total credits requirement towards the completion of the MBA.

KL deemed to be University (India): Multiple master’s degrees

KL deemed to be University, India will offer the credential holders of the MITx MicroMasters program in Data, Economics, and Design of Policy the possibility of earning 60-80 credits out of the total credit requirement towards the completion of the following Master’s programs:

Accra Metropolitan University (Ghana): Multiple master’s degrees

Laweh Open University will offer the credential holders of the MITx MicroMasters program in Data, Economics, and Design of Policy the possibility of earning 40 credits out of the total credits towards completion of the MBA Finance and Accounting program, or 40 credits out of the total credits towards the completion of the MSc Development Economics.

Paris School of Economics (France): Master of Applied Economics: Public Policy and Development

Paris School of Economics (PSE) will offer the credential holders of the MicroMasters program in Data, Economics, and Design of Policy the possibility of earning 60 ECTS credits toward the total graduate credit requirement for the Master of Applied Economics: Public Policy and Development.

Porto Business School (Portugal): Multiple master’s degrees

Porto Business School will offer the credential holders of the MITx MicroMasters program in Data, Economics, and Design of Policy the possibility of earning:

Rochester Institute of Technology (USA): Master of Science in Professional Studies

The Master of Science in Professional Studies allows learners the opportunity to draw on courses offered across RIT graduate programs. Learners who hold the MicroMasters program credential in Data, Economics, and Design of Policy may apply any time during the year and upon acceptance, will be awarded 12 credit hours of the total graduate credits.

Royal Roads University (Canada): Multiple master’s degrees

The School of Business at Royal Roads University (RRU) will offer credential holders of the MITx MicroMasters program in Data, Economics, and Design of Policy the possibility of earning nine of the total graduate credits towards the completion of the following Master's programs:

Tashkent State University of Economics (Uzbekistan): Master of Economics and Macroeconomics

Tashkent State University of Economics (TSUE) will offer the credential holders of the MicroMasters program in Data, Economics, and Design of Policy the possibility of earning 30 credits of the total graduate credits towards the completion of the master’s degree in Economics and Macroeconomics.

The American University in Cairo (Egypt): Master of Economics in International Development

The first blended degree in the Middle East and North Africa region, this AUC program is specially designed for students who wish to acquire in-depth understanding and knowledge in the field of development. The Department of Economics at AUC offers the credential holders of the MicroMasters program credential in DEDP the possibility of earning up to 9 credit hours towards the completion of the AUC’s master’s degree in Economics in International Development. An additional 6 credits may be counted toward the prerequisite requirements for AUC’s master's degree for non-economics applicants to this degree.

The George Washington University (USA): Master of Science in Applied Economics

The George Washington University (GW) will offer credential holders of MIT's MicroMasters program in Data, Economics, and Design of Policy the possibility of earning up to 6 credits towards GW's Master of Science in Applied Economics. Your MicroMasters credential is valid provided it was earned within five years of applying to GW.

By obtaining credit for the MIT coursework, DEDP credential holders can save up to 20% of their tuition and complete their M.S. degree on an accelerated timetable.

Please note that GW will offer credit for individual courses of the MicroMasters program in DEDP for learners who have passed the proctored exam with at least a B grade. Please contact appliedecon@gwu.edu if you have any questions.

Universidad EAN (Colombia): Master of International Businesses

Universidad EAN will offer the credential holders of the MITx MicroMasters program in Data, Economics, and Design of Policy the possibility of earning 12 credits of the total graduate credits towards the completion of the Master's in International Businesses.

In addition, all other master’s degree programs at EAN will grant at least 9 credits out of the total graduate credits to the DEDP MicroMasters program credential holders.

University of San Francisco (USA): Multiple master’s degrees

Located in the heart of the tech economy, the University of San Francisco (USF) offers the credential holders of the MicroMasters program in Data, Economics, and Design of Policy the possibility of earning up to 8 credits towards the completion of the STEM-certified Master of Science in Applied Economics or the Master of Science in International and Development Economics.

Please note that USF will offer credits for individual courses of the MicroMasters program in DEDP for learners who passed the proctored exam.
